THE DESIGN PROCESS

The original 32-acre lot has been expanded across the Wailua River into an existing grotto. A canal has been channeled throughout the site in response to potential future sea level rise trends; the canal acts as a natural drainage system for the site, as well as a gateway for boats, paddle boards, and kayaks among guests. The guest villas on the east side of the canal are elevated off the ground to not only prevent future flood damage from potential storm flooding, but also make guests feel as if they are walking on top of the trees.

VEHICLE ENTRANCE & GUEST DROP OFF

By expanding the site, guests now arrive by car on the south side of the river, where they are taken across river by boat and dropped off at the hotel’s main lobby.

BOAT ARRIVAL & LOBBY ENTRANCE

Guests are dropped off by boat at the main lobby entrance. Outside of the main lobby are a koi pond, various seating areas, and natural, indigenous plant palette. This area's design is influenced by authentic Hawaiian textiles.

LEISURE POOLS & CABANAS

The resort has 3 main pools and two jacuzzi areas. The pools are surrounded by cabanas, which are separated by planting to increase privacy among guests.
